About La Huasteca Midwifery

La Huasteca Midwifery was born from a deep reverence for the transformative power of birth and a conviction that every family deserves to experience it on their own terms. Our practice draws its name from the Huasteca region of Mexico, where midwifery traditions have been passed down through generations of parteras — women who have served as the keepers of birth wisdom for centuries. That lineage of care, knowledge, and community is the foundation of everything we do.

We came to midwifery because we believe that birth, at its core, is not a medical event — it is a profoundly human one. The human body was designed to give birth, and when a laboring person is supported, informed, and trusted, remarkable things happen. Our role is not to manage or direct your birth, but to hold space for it — to monitor when needed, to guide when asked, and to step back when your instincts take over. We bring the clinical skill and the wisdom to know the difference.

Over the years, we have had the privilege of welcoming hundreds of babies into the world in homes across Austin and the surrounding Hill Country. Each birth has reinforced what we knew from the beginning: that when families are treated as the primary decision-makers in their own care, they birth with greater confidence, experience less fear, and carry those strengths into parenthood long after the birth room is cleared.

We are committed to serving all families with respect and cultural humility, regardless of background, identity, or family structure. Birth belongs to everyone, and so does excellent, compassionate care.
